Kalah nima
A standard game uses a 6x2 board: each player has six small pits and one store for captured seeds. The usual setup has 48 seeds, four in each small pit.
Kalah is a good first mancala game because it teaches three core ideas at once: sowing seeds, controlling the last seed, and fighting for tempo through extra turns.
Asosiy qoidalar
A player picks up all seeds from one own pit and sows them counter-clockwise one by one. Seeds go into own pits, opponent pits and own store, while the opponent store is always skipped.
The last seed in your own store earns an extra move. The last seed in an empty own pit captures the opposite opponent seeds. The game ends when one side has no seeds left.
Kalahning matematik xususiyati
In Irving, Donkers and Uiterwijk's work on solving Kalah, the standard Kalah(6,4) case is a first-player win with perfect play. For humans this does not make the game trivial, because counting and tempo mistakes are common.
The main practical principle is mobility. Keeping several active pits and future extra-turn options is often better than taking a small capture with no follow-up.
The rule set in one paragraph
A Kalah game uses a 6x2 board with two stores. A player picks up all seeds from one of their pits, sows them one by one, skips the opponent store, earns another move when the last seed lands in their own store and captures opposite seeds when the last seed lands in an empty own pit.
